How To Make Money With A Scroll Saw

I don't sell my work, personally.  So you tin can accept my communication with a grain of salt.

1) How did y'all get started in scrolling for dollars?

You probably already have the equipment you demand to start.  I don't retrieve y'all'll need to invest too much.  Maybe for some business cards.

If you want to do craft shows, you might take to invest in a tent, tables, displays, and entry fees.

If yous're selling online, I'd use a costless website like blogger.com, or Google Sites (there are lots of places that accept free website tools).  Promote through Facebook.  If yous sell on Etsy or like services, you'll have listing fees which are cheap (20 cents or so).  You might accept to invest in a good camera if you don't already have 1.

Word of mouth is probably the easiest.  No investment other than materials. ;)

2) Do you market your services or is information technology a word-of-rima oris thing? If you really market place what tools do you employ?

I wouldn't take out any paid ads online or in the paper.  For online, Facebook is your friend.  Create a page and update it ofttimes (people LOVE pictures...accept lots of pictures).  Use a gratis blog and update that oft.  That way you have a webpage to point people to with your contact info and pictures of your work.

If you mail to Etsy, post often and spread out the posts (don't mail xxx items at one time.  Instead, post 30 items over a week or two).  That way yous're more likely to get organic traffic.

Keep business organization cards with y'all with your website, and other contact info.  Maybe even keep a few samples in your trunk to prove off to people when they show an interest.  Perchance even carry photos on your smart phone.

I don't think people know or care which tools you accept.  I retrieve they actually only need to know that information technology'due south hand crafted.  You can brand a quick sit-in video to show them the scroll saw.  Simply I uncertainty they'll intendance y'all're working on an Excalibur using a #iii FD Scroll Reverse blade.

iii) How practise you accuse for your work?

I wrote this commodity awhile back that might help.  Others may accept their ain methods.

four) What advice would you lot give someone trying to get started?

Determine how much yous desire to put into information technology.  If it's casual, keep it simple.  Don't go overboard ownership new equipment, fancy marketing campaigns, and expensive lumber.  It doesn't cost much, so the gamble is low.  It probably doesn't accept much additional effort either.  And selling your work can become an offshoot of your hobby.  Information technology but adds some other dimension to you favorite past time.  If information technology doesn't piece of work out, so be it.  But I suspect you tin earn enough to buy a new tool every once in awhile.

This isn't to say yous can't make a living at it.  Some people do.  And if y'all do, you'll probably stumble into a niche without realizing it until the orders start coming in.

Only here's a couple articles on SSV you might relish.  Etsy.com too has a agglomeration of great info for the crafting business.
